My Horses

I was not raised around horses, but they came as a package deal with my wife so I have learned a lot in the last 4 years. It has had a bit of a learning curve, but with my wife’s instruction I think I’m turning out to be a pretty decent rider. In spite of all the feeding, cleaning, hauling hay and shelling out truckloads of money they have become as much a part of my life as they are for my wife.

Dottie is a 10 year old overo paint mare that was shown for her first 5 years in halter, trail, and equitation until she was retired to being more of a trail horse. She has pretty much adopted me and is quite a bit jealous if I spend time around the other mares (or really just anything else at all).

Shady is our 3 year old sabino paint mare that just recently fully recovered from a severe injury to her right hind. She had surgery by the excellent team of veterinarians at Littleton Large Animal Clinic in Littleton, CO. She was in a cast for months,  recovering  in a custom built recovery pen that my wife and I built for her. Shady was the first horse that my wife and I bought together.

Three’s a crowd… our third mare is our 21 year old Quarter Horse mare that my wife roped on for 2 years. She is a quirky mare that spends part of her time skittering away from us because of a history of abuse by her prior owners.
