K5 Blazers
I’ve owned two K5 Blazers that I ended up modifying quite a bit. The first was a ‘72, and the second was an ‘88. Both got the 52″ front spring swap, with longer shackles and shackle mount relocation. Both also had shackle flip and longer shackles in the rear. The ‘88 had the heavy tailgate/window removed and I welded up a tube replacement to keep the bedsides in place. Both trucks had mildly modified 350 c.i. motors. I cut out the dash on the ‘88 and fabricated an aluminum replacement, complete with autometer gauges and a full switch panel with circuit breakers, switch guards and indicator lights.
They both started out with aftermarket 4″ lift springs that rode like a chuckwagon with square wheels. By the time I’d completed all the suspension work, they actually flexed on the trail and hit bumps better than a Cadillac. I still regret not keeping the ‘72. That was a fun truck.
